This educational initiative is targeted to hematologists (benign/classical), hem/oncs, primary care physicians, internists, gastroenterologists, otolaryngologists, allergists, and the nurse/nurse practitioner and pharmacist members of their interprofessional team, who help diagnose, evaluate, and treat patients with iron deficiency (ID) and iron deficiency anemia (IDA), inclusive of patients with HHT-associated IDA. Designed as a grassroots, expert-led serial initiative of 4 live meetings, which will be strategically geotargeted to hospitals, health-systems, and clinics disparate from HHT Centers of Excellence and not reached by Cornerstone’s first HHT Grand Rounds installment, this series will be bolstered by a multimodal synergy of Cornerstone learner touchpoints, including our Cornerstone Clinical Tool (provided as a downloadable PDF on our dedicated clinical resource landing page and as printed collateral for live, on-site attendees), an episode on the Cornerstone Medical Education Podcast (CME-Pod), a Core Clinical Concepts video summary overview by the Activity Chair, and DOL-tethered social media extensions on X and LinkedIn. Strategically developed to promote clinician awareness of HHT and galvanize optimization of HHT-associated IDA management, particularly by hematology and primary care clinicians, this series will begin with an overview of HHT epidemiology and pathophysiology, emphasizing diverse disease manifestations and clinical presentation, then move into an appraisal of current guideline-directed standards for diagnosis, screening, and treatment. Each session will conclude with a case-based segment that incisively examines best practices specifically for HHT-associated IDA, with a dedicated focus on the role of intravenous iron as iron replacement therapy. Practical differentiators between available IV iron products, inclusive of a detailed analysis of IV iron-induced hypophosphatemia risk as reflected in current international HHT Guidelines and IV iron product label updates, will be accentuated as vital determinants of best practice treatment selection using case scenarios.
